Aron Smith is an exciting young talent from Ireland who finished as the highest placed Rookie in the 2012 Championship standings with eighth position, achieving his first BTCC race win and one podium finish in his debut season for the Redstone Racing team.
Aron’s fast, flat out approach has earned him a reputation as a true racer, one who’s not afraid to attack. This was acknowledged this year when his outstanding performance at Rockingham granted him the HiQ Champagne Moment Award, chosen by the fans of Britain's premier saloon car championship. His on track racing prowess has gained him a legion of fans across Ireland and the UK, with key industry journalists following his BTCC season with interest.
Coming from a family passionate about motorsport, Aron has already had a taste of BTCC through his older brother Gavin, who drove for the 888 team in 2005 and 2006. Destined to start his own racing career Aron began karting at the age of 14, winning championships in Ireland before heading overseas to compete in more competitive series. Since 2007 Aron has progressed up the ranks in the Renault Clio Cup Championship, which saw him become Vice Champion in 2011 and the winner of the Graduate Cup Award.
Away from the race track Aron splits his time between University, where he studies Structural Engineering and work, where he’s a Student Brand Manager for Red Bull. Another passion close to his heart is working with animals, and for the past three years Aron has volunteered for the DSPCA, Ireland’s largest welfare organisation preventing cruelty to animals. Aron regularly walks dogs for the charity and has even taken a few stray dogs into the shelter. Aron continues to support the DSPCA throughout his racing career.
Aron is proud to be associated with the DSPCA, Ireland’s largest welfare organisation preventing cruelty to animals.
