Redstone Racing’s Aron Smith will start round 13 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship from 13th position at Croft, leaving the Dubliner with a strong chance of adding to his run top ten finishes so far in Britain’s premier saloon car championship.
Motorsport Ireland’s Young Driver of the Year, endured a difficult session in the North East however, with changing weather conditions hampering the young Irishman’s hopes of a top ten grid slot at the circuit situated near Darlington.
Despite the 2011 AirAsia Renault Clio Cup Vice Champion’s small set back, Smith remains confident that he can propel himself into the top ten for this weekend’s races, as he aims to close in the 24 point gap between 14th, and 10th position in the championship standings.
“To be honest, I was hoping to go a lot quicker than we did today,” said Smith. “It’s just a shame that we had a change in weather, as I don’t think that we got the best out of our tyres.”
“I think that Mat’s pace is as good as the car could have gone in the optimum window, but unfortunately we just missed that. I’ve had to come from further back on the grid before this year, so I’m ready to go out there and give it a good go tomorrow.”
Round 13 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will commence tomorrow (24th June), at 12:02. Full coverage of the day will be available via ITV4 and ITV4 HD.
